Plan your Explore Zealong visit

Visitors are able to make their own plans throughout the day and make their way to any location that is of interest. To get the most out of your Explore Zealong experience, we recommend allowing at least 3-4 hours for your visit, including dining.

The High tea will require a reservation. All other locations are run continuously throughout the day.

Essential information for planning your visit

  • LOCATION: 495 Gordonton Road – just 15 minutes North of Hamilton CBD
  • TIME: Gates open at 9am and close at 4:30pm. Tours and tasting will be running all day.
  • TICKETS: $35pp for a Picnic Lunch Box and an all-access pass ($25 per child aged 5-10 years) or $80 for High Tea and an all-access pass (Bookings for High Tea are essential)
  • WEATHER: Zealong’s Explore Zealong event is an all weather event, so be sure to bring a rain jacket or umbrella and gumboots just in case.

Visit here first to redeem your ticket, receive your information pack, and all access pass. Your all access pass is required for entry at all key site locations.

Here you can learn the art of picking tea and about the conditions that make perfect tea here in New Zealand. Visit the friendly Zealong team member in a Zealong Hi-Vis vest for a demonstration. Demonstrations will be continuous all day and no booking is required.

Demonstrations are expected to last approximately 15 minutes but may vary.

Sit back and take a scenic tractor tour of Zealong’s Tea Estate. This ride will take you for a tour on a trailer around the tea estate. The tractor and trailer will be running continuously throughout the day with each trip holding up to 15 guests at a time.

Each ride will take approximately 10 minutes. Please take note that due to visitor capacity per ride, there may be a waiting time.

Ever wondered how we grow tea in New Zealand? On show will be all of Zealong’s tea farm technology including our one-of-a-kind purpose-built tractor, our specially modified tea trimmers and our new mobile frost fan.

One of our friendly team members will be holding scheduled demonstrations throughout the day at specific times. Visitors are welcome to join at specific times or freely explore Zealong’s farm tech themselves.

Each demonstration will take approximately 30 minutes. Demonstrations are continuous and rolling and timing may vary.

An exclusive behind the scenes peek into the world of tea processing in New Zealand. Here you will see production methods that combine the best of east meets west. Discover the various tea processing stages from start to finish. The factory exhibition is run continuously throughout the day.

Please note, while you enjoy your visit with us during Explore Zealong the factory will not be producing tea. We process tea 3 times a year – November, January and March. We will have displays for you to see how we produce tea, and our experienced staff on site to answer any questions you might have.

You will be able to taste Zealong’s full collection of tea in the Vista Functions Room on the day.

We will have our Tea Bar open for hot tea, iced tea and cocktail purchases that are optional and additional. Beverages from the Tea Bar are not included in the ticket price.

Timing may vary, but we recommend to spend approximately 15 minutes for tasting. Approach timing with caution though, because you might just enjoy the experience too much!

Visit the Tea Bar and Pavilion to pick up your Picnic Box, which is included in a standard ticket.
Discover new ways to enjoy Zealong tea at our Tea Bar*. Hot, iced and cocktails will be available for purchase all day. Collect your food, get your tea and enjoy a picnic in the fields.

Check your map or at the registration desk for our designated picnic areas. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own picnic blankets.

*Beverages are additional and not included in a standard ticket.

If you want to include High Tea in your Explore Zealong experience, please ensure you purchase the High Tea Package. When planning your day, we recommend you allow 1.5-2 hours for your dining experience.

Your Explore Zealong High Tea ticket is valid for the Explore Zealong Event only and will not be valid on any other dates.
Pre purchase for high tea is essential.

Visit Zealong’s Guest House, the newest addition to the Estate. Visitors are welcome to walk through the Guest House and take in the country charm. We encourage you to enquire about our visitor packages for your next special event, function or any accommodation you might need.

Helicopters are essential to protect tea from frost during spring. Helicorp provides this service yearly and have helicopter rides available for the day that show a typical flight path during a frosty morning on the tea estate.

Helicopter rides are not included in an Explore Zealong ticket, but are available and booked through Helicorp on the day.

Your High Tea ticket is only valid for June 18.

This is an all-weather event and some of it will be on farm – we recommend sensible shoes for walking and prepare for rain. High visibility vests will be supplied when on farm and hair nets and shoes covers will be supplied for the factory tour.

You will be able to taste the whole range  of teas in the Vista Functions Room on the day.

We will have our Tea Bar open for hot tea, iced tea and cocktail purchases that are optional and additional. Beverages from the Tea Bar are not included in the ticket price.

Yes, while on the Estate we encourage you to take photos to remember your day. There are some restrictions in some areas, you will be advised at each location.

Picnic lunch boxes can be picked up at the Pavilion and enjoyed in the designated picnic areas.

For health and safety reasons all children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Babies can be carried in a front pack or push chair for the factory tour.

Yes, you can, if you keep your wristband on, you will be allowed to come and go throughout the day.

No, we are a working farm and production facility and having animals on site is against our health and safety and food safety procedures. If you have a registered service animal, please get in touch and will be able to plan with you so you can enjoy your day with us.

Yes, parking is available and is free. Please refer to the site map for parking locations.

Children under 5 are free, but no food is included. Please purchase a child’s lunch box to have food provided.

Our site is fully accessible, but please advise us if you need mobility support.

Explore Zealong is a special one day event only. Tickets are final at purchase and a strict no exchanges/refunds policy in place.
