Zealong at Fieldays

For the first time, the Zealong team has been at Fieldays, showcasing our a one-of-a-kind tea farm machine, and sharing how we grow and produce tea only 30 minutes away from the site of the long-standing agricultural event, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year.

We worked together with a French manufacturer of vineyard machinery to develop the specially-designed hydraulic tractor, which can do just about everything on our certified organic estate – except picking, which is done by hand for just 60 days of the year.

Affectionately nicknamed “The Transformer”, due to its system of moving parts and attachments, the large yellow machine straddles two rows of tea as it trims, prunes, mows, weeds, ploughs, or spreads fertiliser. Read more about it from the New Zealand Herald.

Zealong tea was also available from our site to take home or to drink, and many visitors – including Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern – were spotted keeping their hands warm with a Zealong cup!
