A VIP banquet dinner was held at Zealong Tea Estate to mark the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and New Zealand.  It was attended by over 100 local dignitaries and members of
the Diplomatic Corps. This is the first time this event has been held outside of Auckland and as a show of support for the Waikato Region, Zealong’s The Vista was chosen as the venue.

Consul-General Madam Xu Erwen said in her address on the evening that tea’s historical ties with the Silk Road in China “make the Waikato a more meaningful location for the celebrations.”

This evening the top four student teams in the Waikato Management School 43rd Case Competition presented their business strategies for Zealong. We are so impressed with all the hard work the students have put in, and their creative ideas! The team “Settlers of Catan” took out the grand prize – congratulations to David, Bianca, Amber, Anna, and Dominic!

Zealong Tea Estate was invited to participate in the Official State Banquet by serving their award winning organic tea to the Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and his accompanying delegation of dignitaries during their visit to New Zealand.

The VIP banquet was held at The Langham Hotel’s Great Room and hosted by New Zealand Prime Minister Bill English together with other members of New Zealand’s political and business elite.

“We regard it as a great honour to be invited to serve our award winning tea at this auspicious occasion”, said Zealong General Manager Gigi Crawford. “Our top quality organic tea was extremely well received by all the guests and we hope that the visitors were left with a unique flavour of Pure New Zealand and a sense of ‘home away from home’.

We were thrilled to welcome Prime Minister John Key to officially open our new functions centre and production facility, the Vista, at our tea estate in the Waikato. As featured in the Waikato Times, Prime Minister John Key said Zealong Tea’s export potential is significant and its story is one that has real appeal to a global audience. He  told invited guests to the Vista opening that the world has an appreciation for high quality beverages, especially those with a unique, New Zealand story like the Zealong Tea story.

Zealong Tea founder Vincent Chen shared his vision for growing oolong tea in the Waikato and exporting it to the world. A true story of New Zealand innovation, the Zealong Tea Estate continues to evolve.

As part of her 11-stop nationwide tour, Chelsea held her Waikato launch of Scrumptious at the Zealong Tea Estate. Avid followers, us included, thoroughly enjoyed listening to Chelsea and picking her brains over some of our most pressing cooking questions.

Thanks Chelsea for picking us as the venue of choice.
